Angel Reese is the 2026 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, the first Atlanta Dream player ever to win the award! The former LSU star pulled in 46 of 74 votes after a season in which she led the league with 12.1 rebounds per game and finished third in both steals per game and total steals. Reese set WNBA single-season records with 521 total rebounds, 206 offensive rebounds, and 32 double-doubles, becoming the first player in league history to reach 500 boards in a season.

🔼 National Stage. LSU women’s hoops will be featured nationally on ABC three times during the upcoming season. Your first chance to catch the Tigers on ABC comes on Dec. 20 when LSU battles UConn in Nashville. The Tigers will also square off against Vanderbilt on Jan. 3 and South Carolina on Feb. 21 on the network.

🔼 Big Stage In Bethlehem. LSU cross country travels to the 52nd Annual Paul Short Run this weekend, hosted by Lehigh at the Goodman Campus XC Course. The women's Gold 6K goes off at 10:45 a.m. CT with the men's Brown 8K following at 1 p.m. CT. The Tiger women enter ranked No. 16 nationally by FloTrack, and this marks the first meet of the season where the top runners take on a non-relay race. Edna Chepkemoi and Maddie Gump are coming off a winning 2x3k relay at the LSU Twilight XC Relay Invitational.

🔼 The Same Number, A Different Runner. Shawnti Jackson ran 22.35 seconds to win Pan American U20 gold in 2023. When she lined up for her next 200-meter race in April 2026, she clocked the exact same time, but everything in between had changed. Knee injuries across her freshman and sophomore seasons at Arkansas wore her down to the point she considered walking away from the sport entirely. A transfer to LSU and a coach who believed in her turned it around. In her first individual race as a Tiger, Jackson broke the collegiate outdoor record in the 300 meters, and she went on to a personal-best 22.12 and a silver medal at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
