Small Talk: Shelly Mullenix, LSU's Senior Associate AD for Health and Wellness

On the latest episode of Small Talk: The Lab, LaKeitha Poole and Tyrus Thomas welcome Shelly Mullenix, LSU's Senior Associate AD for Health and Wellness. This edition is centered about More Than The Game, talking Leadership, Health and Human Performance.

🔼 Celebration of Life. LSU and the Brown family will host a Celebration of Life for Coach Dale Brown on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. CT inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The event is free and open to the public, with doors at 5:30 p.m., general admission seating in the lower and middle bowl, and floor seating reserved for former players and family guests. A funeral Mass will be held that morning at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church, also open to the public, and the evening service will stream on SECN+ as well as LSU Sports’ YouTube and Facebook pages. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the Dale Brown Scholarship Fund through the Tiger Athletic Foundation.

🔼 Tigers on the Watch List. Mikaylah Williams, MiLaysia Fulwiley, and Jada Williams all landed on the Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Watch List, putting three Tigers among the top 50 players in the country. Mikaylah paced LSU in four statistical categories last season on her way to unanimous Coaches All-SEC First Team honors, while Fulwiley arrived as SEC Sixth Woman of the Year and Jada ranked top five nationally in assists at Iowa State. The list gets trimmed to 30 at midseason before four finalists are named in the spring.

🔼 More to Watch. ZaKiyah Johnson joins the Katrina McClain Award Preseason Watchlist as one of the top 20 power forwards in the country. Recruited to play the perimeter, Johnson spent most of her freshman season in the post and still led the Tiger freshman class in scoring, starts, and minutes while earning SEC All-Freshman honors. The Kentucky native reached double figures 18 times as a rookie.

🔼 Calling it a Comeback. Former Tiger Ciara Briggs has been medically cleared and re-signed with the Texas Volts for the 2027 AUSL season after missing all of 2026 recovering from a brain bleed caused by an arteriovenous malformation. Doctors couldn’t operate because of its location, so Briggs went through radiation and a long recovery that kept her off the field entirely until clearance came in late September. She’s back training and lifting now, and says she expects to be in tears when she runs out for that first game.
