Bayou Brew 1/15: A Day To Honor

Celebrating MLK Day with the Tigers.

Good morning. “If you can’t fly then run, If you can’t run then walk, If you can’t walk then crawl, But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, we pause to honor a man who moved our country and our society forward in so many ways. As we celebrate victories, moments and stories in each and every Brew, let us remember those who helped pave the paths before us.

This morning, we hope you enjoy this mini-sized Bayou Brew. We’ll be back with your Venti-sized edition on Tuesday.

What did we pour into today's Brew?

🔼 Nailed It. The gymnastics team finished second at the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Meet, only behind No. 1 Oklahoma. The Tigers topped No. 2 Utah and No. 12 UCLA. Freshman Konnor McClain earned her first career perfect 10.00 in only her second bars routine in her collegiate career. She took home the bars title for her first collegiate title. The team scored a 49.650 on bars, the highest score recorded on the road in school history. The Tigers finished the meet with a 197.150 score.

🔼  Super Speed. The track & field teams hosted the LSU Purple Tiger meet over the weekend. The Tigers dominated the women’s 60m hurdles, with Alia Armstrong and Leah Phillips coming in first and second. Alia ran the second-fastest 60mh time in the world and the fastest in the nation — 8.05 seconds. Myles Thomas took first-place in the men’s 60m final, running the third-best time in the nation. Morgan Smalls and Ji’eem Bullock took the men’s and women’s long jump titles. Emery Prentice won the women’s pole vault. Freshman Rhen Langley won the men’s one mile and Lorena Rangel-Batres, Michaela Rose, Tana Monk, Callie Hardy, and Ella Chestnut placed in order in the women’s one mile.

Today’s trivia question…

Myles Thomas became the fourth-fastest 60m sprinter in LSU history.
