Bayou Brew 2/17: Boom Go The Tigers

🎥 LSU+

The Climb. LSU Gymnastics channels their advocacy and powerful voices to bounce back from adversity, using their strength and passion for change to fuel a triumphant road win at No. 14 Alabama.

🔼  Upset Alert. The second-ranked gymnastics team took down top-ranked Oklahoma on Friday night, 198.050-197.675! The Tigers recorded season-high scores in vault and floor, in front of a fourth-largest crowd of 13,386. Kailin Chio took her third-straight all-around title with a career-high 39.725. Sierra Ballard won her first beam title of her collegiate career with a 9.95. Haleigh Bryant, Amari Drayton, and Chio shared the floor title.

🔼 The Powerhouse. LSU baseball started the season with a whole lot of power! They beat Purdue Fort Wayne in all three games with a combined score of 32-2. The Tiger pitching staff struck out 45 total batters. The weekend was highlighted by home runs from Ashton Larson, Daniel Dickinson, and Derek Curiel. Kade Anderson threw five shutout innings in Friday’s 14-0 win.

🔼 Proving It. Seventh-ranked LSU softball went 5-0 at the Purple & Gold Challenge with four top-25 wins! They beat No. 22 Northwestern twice, 7-1 on Friday and 8-0 on Saturday. They also beat No. 17 Virginia Tech 7-2 and 7-4. The ranked wins came after they opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over UT Arlington. The Tigers improved to 10-0 this season.

🔼 Boom Go The Tigers. The men’s basketball team got back in the win column! The Tigers beat Oklahoma 82-79 in what proved to be a bad weekend to be a Sooner. Cam Carter led LSU with 29 points, and seven in the final 20 seconds. Daimion Collins scored 22, while Dji Bailey scored 13. The Tigers will host South Carolina tomorrow at 8 p.m.

🔼 Tight Battle. The fifth-ranked women’s basketball team fell on the road at No. 3 Texas in a 65-58 defensive battle. Mikaylah Williams scored 18, Flau’Jae Johnson scored 16, and Aneesah Morrow scored 15 points. Morrow added a game-high 20 rebounds for her 24th double-double this season.
