Bayou Brew 2/17: Staying Hot
Plus: LSU baseball was back on the field.
Good morning, Tigers!
What else is mixed into today’s Bayou Brew?
💎 Diamond Report
🔥 Staying hot
🐯 And so much more!
Your YETI Game Changer of the Week is the LSU baseball rightfielder Jake Brown!
In Sunday’s 21-7 victory over Milwaukee, Jake Brown blasted two homers and collected a career-best six RBI.

🔼 Diamond Report. The bats are alive and the arms are dealing in Baton Rouge. LSU baseball opened 2026 with a commanding three-game sweep of Milwaukee, outscoring the Panthers 41-15 and extending their season-opening win streak to a jaw-dropping 25 games. The pitching staff racked up 49 strikeouts in the series, marking the most in a three-game set since at least 1992. A big week ahead features a contest against Nicholls and a trip to Jacksonville to face Indiana, Notre Dame, and UCF.

🔼 Called Up. Rising sophomore Sariyah Bailey just became the first active LSU soccer player ever called up to a U.S. Women's National Team. She earned a spot on the U-19 roster heading to Portugal for friendlies against Czechia, Wales, and Portugal (Feb. 21–March 7), a camp that doubles as prep for the 2026 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Bailey was electric as a freshman in 2025, posting nine goals and a team-high seven assists while helping LSU reach its first-ever NCAA Sweet 16.

🔼 Staying Hot. The No. 17 Tigers capped off a dominant weekend at the ITA National Indoor Championships with a 4-0 shutout of No. 9 UCF, their second straight top-10 win after knocking off No. 8 Texas A&M the day before. LSU locked up the doubles point early, then got stellar singles wins from Arutiunian, Ponce de Leon (now on a five-match win streak!), and freshman Olaf Pieczkowski, who clinched the match with a gutsy 6-3, 6-3 takedown of No. 64 Dlimi on the top court. The Tigers move to 9-1 on the season and look every bit like a team building toward something special.

🔼 First Pitch. No. 12 LSU softball looks to get back on track when South Alabama visits Tiger Park tonight at 6 p.m. (SEC Network+). Jalia Lassiter has been on fire, hitting .455 with a seven-game hitting streak and reaching base in all 11 games this season. Sierra Daniel isn't far behind at .438, and the Tigers lead the entire country with eight triples. The defense has been elite, turning eight double plays (5th nationally, 1st in SEC). LSU owns a 10-game win streak over the Jaguars dating back to 2014, so the matchup is a good opportunity to build momentum heading deeper into the season.

🔼 Game Day. LSU men’s basketball travels to Moody Coliseum tonight (8:05 p.m., SEC Network) to face Texas for the first time as SEC road opponents. The Tigers are coming off a gutsy showing at Tennessee, where they knocked down eight threes and committed just three turnovers, tying a program record that had only been matched once in 70 years. Jalen Reece and Marquel Sutton led the way with 15 apiece, while Reece has been a rock at point guard, logging 73 minutes over the last two games with 11 assists. After Tuesday, the Tigers head home for a big stretch of three straight Saturday games at the PMAC, starting with Alabama.

🔼 Giving Back. LSU swimming & diving senior Jacob Pishko is making waves in and out of the pool. The team captain was named to the SEC Community Service team for his outstanding volunteer work since arriving in Baton Rouge. Pishko has logged 27 hours of community service, with 23 this school year alone, helping organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the Companion Animal Alliance, and the Knock Knock Children's Museum.
