The Real Deal: Gracey James Campbell of LSU Beach Volleyball Talks Debut Novel

Gracey James Campbell, a senior beach volleyball student-athlete from Corinth, Texas, joined The Real Deal podcast to talk about her debut romance novel “It’s Been Five Years,” which released on Feb. 5.

🔼 Turning Heads. Junior outfielder Jake Brown is off to a scorching start. The Sulphur, La. native earned Baseball America Team of the Week honors after hitting .529 with four homers, 10 RBI, and seven runs through LSU's first four games. Brown went deep twice in back-to-back games, becoming the first Tiger to do that since Jared Jones in 2023, and added his first career grand slam along the way.

🔼 Best of the Week. Kailin Chio is putting together one of the most spectacular sophomore seasons in LSU history. She earned her third SEC Gymnast of the Week honor this season (12th of her career!) after posting a 39.875 all-around against No. 17 Auburn, tying the second-highest all-around score in program history. Chio won vault, beam, and floor on top of the all-around, capping the night with a perfect 10.0 on floor, which is her her third career perfect score and first on that event. Up next: a massive No. 2 vs. No. 1 showdown at Oklahoma on Friday night on ESPN2.

🔼 Win Column. LSU softball picked up the Mardi Gras win yesterday with a 10-2 victory over South Alabama. Tatum Clopton picked up the win in the circle for the Tigers. Offensively, the Tigers were powered by a four-RBI performance from Alix Frankin as well as a 1-1 showing from Tori Edwards and 1-2 outing from Ally Hutchins.

🔼 Dive In. LSU swimming & diving made a splash on day two in Knoxville. The men's 200-medley relay squad of Goncharov, Lisovets, Ellis, and Hribar broke the school record with a 1:21.23, earning a bronze medal on the podium. Not to be outdone, the women's 200-medley relay team of Carlos-Broc, Bukvic, Littlefield, and de Villiers also set a school record at 1:34.71, missing a bronze by just 0.19 seconds. The men sit fourth in the team standings (177 points) with plenty of swimming still ahea, including Carson Paul's defense of his SEC title on the 3m board today.

🔼 Tune In. LSU baseball takes on three Power 4 opponents this weekend at the Live Like Lou Jacksonville Classic: Indiana (Friday), Notre Dame (Saturday), and UCF (Sunday). All games will be streamed on D1Baseball (separate $29.99 purchase required at rhstv.com/d1baseball).

🔼 In The Rankings. Despite a tough 1-4 stretch at the Clearwater Invitational, LSU remains firmly in the national conversation, ranked No. 17 in the USA Softball poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll. The Tigers host the Purple & Gold Challenge at Tiger Park this weekend with Howard, Michigan State, and UL Lafayette coming to town.
