Bayou Brew 2/23: Go For Gold
Plus: Baseball keeps cruising.
Good morning, Tigers!
No. 1 LSU baseball rolled past UCF 11-0 on Sunday to clinch the Live Like Lou Jax Classic title in Jacksonville, outscoring opponents 33-11 across three games. The Tigers (8-0) head home to host McNeese tomorrow at Alex Box Stadium (6:30 p.m., SEC Network+).
What else is mixed into today’s Bayou Brew?
🏖️ Sandy start
🥇 Go for gold
🐯 And so much more!

🔼 Record Setters. No. 7 LSU women’s basketball demolished Missouri 108-55 Sunday at the PMAC, with seven players scoring in double figures for the first time since November. MiLaysia Fulwiley led the charge with 22 points, including a career-high six three-pointers, and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Freshman Zakiyah Johnson was a force with 17 points and a career-high 14 boards, while Flau'jae Johnson (16), Kate Koval (13), Mikaylah Williams (12), Bella Hines (11), and Jada Richard (10) all joined the double-digit party. LSU's 12 threes on the day were the second most in program history, and the Tigers grabbed a staggering 72 rebounds: the most by any LSU team in the NCAA women's basketball championship era. The Tigers (24-4, 10-4 SEC) host Tennessee for Senior Day on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN.

🔼 Clean Sweep. LSU softball freshman Ashlin Mowery picked a great time for her first collegiate start. The Ohio native was masterful yesterday, holding Howard to one hit over 5.1 shutout innings as No. 19 LSU edged the Bison 1-0 to sweep the Purple & Gold Challenge. The lone run came on a Tori Edwards single that plated Jalia Lassiter. Up next: a midweek trip to McNeese on Tuesday (6 PM CT, ESPN+).

🔼 Sandy Start. No. 12 LSU beach volleyball rolled through the Green Wave Invitational in New Orleans, going 5-0 with wins over No. 20 Tulane, South Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and Spring Hill. Head coach Russell Brock got a look at his full roster, rotating players across lineups all weekend. The Court 2 duo of Tatum Finlason and Skylar Martin were dominant throughout, while Julia Sprecher and Kenzey McGatlin came up clutch on Court 1 in multiple matches. LSU capped the weekend with a 5-0 sweep of Spring Hill.

🔼 Go For Gold. Jere Hribar saved the best for last. The LSU swimming and diving junior from Croatia capped the SEC Championships with a gold medal in the 100 free. Hribar finished the week with five total medals: three individual, two relay. Michaela de Villiers posted a personal-best 47.53 for fourth in the women's 100 free (second in program history), and Zoe Carlos-Broc went 1:57.16 in the 200 IM to move to second all-time at LSU. Both the men's and women's 400 free relays placed fourth, with the men setting a school record (2:47.52). LSU tallied seven medals on the week. Up next: the James E. Martin Invitational at Auburn (Feb. 27-28) for last-chance NCAA qualifying.

🔼 Mark Your Calendar. LSU soccer head coach Sian Hudson's squad released its 2026 spring exhibition schedule as the Tigers gear up for Hudson's seventh fall season. LSU opens Feb. 28 at Rice in Houston, then hits the road to South Alabama (March 21) and Texas Tech in Denton (April 11). Fans get one home date on April 18 against Northwestern State at LSU Soccer Stadium before the Tigers close out spring with a doubleheader in Lafayette against UL-Lafayette and Houston on April 25.

🔼 Perfect 10. LSU gymnastics’ Kailin Chio put on a show at Oklahoma, scoring two perfect 10s on vault and beam en route to four event titles and the all-around crown (39.850, the highest road all-around in program history). Lexi Zeiss earned her first career floor title with a career-high 9.925, sharing the honor with Chio and Amari Drayton. The No. 2 Tigers posted a 197.925, good for their highest road score of the season, but fell just short of Oklahoma's 198.125. Next up: a top-three showdown when No. 3 Alabama visits the PMAC on Feb. 27 (8:30 p.m., SEC Network).
