Bayou Brew 3/12: Standing Out

Plus: Eight Tigers are headed to the NCAA Championships!

Good morning, Tigers.

LSU women’s basketball junior guard Mikaylah Williams earned a spot among the nation's five best small forwards as a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award. She averages 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists this season, scoring in double figures in 25 of 32 games. Williams has been on a tear lately, including a season-high 26 points and career-high 15 rebounds against Mississippi State, part of three consecutive double-doubles, a feat no Tiger had accomplished since Aneesah Morrow's 2025 postseason run. Fan voting opens Friday, March 13 at noon CT on hoophallawards.com.

🎥 LSU+: THE CLIMB

The Climb | Eyes Forward | S4 E5

Presented by Baton Rouge Super Chevy Dealers | As March approaches, it's full speed ahead for LSU Gymnastics with a home meet vs. No. 3 Alabama, Podium Challenge at the River Center in Baton Rouge, and a road test vs. No. 4 Florida. The Tigers look to finish strong with postseason fast approaching.

🔼 Diving In. The Tigers are headed to the NCAAs with eight qualifiers, led by SEC champions Jere Hribar and Carson Paul. Hribar qualified in three individual events (50-free, 100-free, 200-free) and owns the fastest 100-free time in the country this season. Paul punched his ticket in the 1m and 3m diving events at the Zone D Regional, with a shot at platform still to come. Volodymyr Lisovets (100-breast) and Nikola Simic (1650-free) also qualified individually, while Stepan Goncharov, Caleb Ellis, Diggory Dillingham, and Simon Meubry earned spots through relay qualifications. The 20th-ranked Tigers boast five individual times and four relay times in the national top 20, including the fourth-fastest 200-medley relay in the NCAA. The men compete March 25-28 in Atlanta.

🔼 Standing Out. The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes recognized four Tigers for their excellence in the classroom and commitment to their communities. Football freshman Aidan Anding earned praise for his accountability, initiative in seeking extra academic support, and willingness to help fellow students. Gymnastics freshman Nina Ballou made the President's Honor Roll her first semester and arrived on campus with college credits already in hand. Senior swimmers Chloe Cheng (Animal Science) and Stuart Higdon (Agriculture Business), both on track for May 2026 graduation, were lauded for balancing rigorous coursework with leadership and a team-first mentality in the pool.

🔼 Ranked & Ready. The Sandy Tigs checked in at No. 12 in the AVCA's week three poll. LSU went 1-3 at the MPSF Coast to Coast Challenge in Los Angeles, picking up a quality win over No. 18 Washington. The schedule doesn't get any easier; LSU heads to Manhattan Beach this weekend for the East Meets West Invitational, where they'll face a gauntlet of No. 1 UCLA, No. 9 LMU, No. 10 California, and No. 13 Hawai'i.

🔼 Player of the Week. LSU men’s tennis’ Olaf Pieczkowski earned SEC Player of the Week honors after a standout performance over the last week!
