Bayou Brew 4/23: All-Conference

Plus: An LSU first.

Good morning, Tigers.

LSU junior shortstop Steve Milam has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the nation's top shortstop. Milam has been nearly flawless defensively, committing just one error in 148 chances for a .993 fielding percentage. Offensively, he's hitting .282 with six home runs and 25 RBI, and is currently riding a 19-game on-base streak and an eight-game hitting streak during which he's batting .387. The last LSU player to win the award was Alex Bregman in 2013.

🤔 LSU+: TIGERS WIN

Tigers Win: Beth Torina

LSU Head Softball Coach Beth Torina joins the latest edition of Tigers Win to recap a series sweep of Ole Miss last weekend at Tiger Park and talk some incredible individual performances this season. Plus, a look ahead to the final two series of the regular season at Mississippi State and at home vs. Auburn.

🔼 All-Conference. LSU women's tennis earned four All-SEC honors, led by sophomore Cadence Brace earning First Team All-SEC for the second straight year. Brace went 10-5 at the No. 1 spot with seven ranked wins. Fellow sophomore Kayla Cross earned All-SEC Second Team honors for the second consecutive year, going 7-2 in singles with five ranked wins. Newcomers Ella McDonald (9-5, five ranked wins) and Addison Lanton also earned Second Team All-SEC recognition, with Lanton adding All-Freshman Team honors. Lanton leads the team with a 20-2 singles record and an active 11-match winning streak.

🔼 Tee Off. For what is believed to be the first time, four LSU alumnae will tee off together in the same LPGA major when Austin Ernst, Ingrid Lindblad, Madelene Sagstrom, and Carla Tejedo all compete in this week's Chevron Championship in Houston. Lindblad, who won on the LPGA Tour in her 2025 rookie season, and Tejedo, a first-year pro playing in her first major, tee off this morning. Ernst and Sagstrom, both multi-time Solheim Cup representatives with a combined 92 major appearances, play in the afternoon wave.

🔼 Welcome to Baton Rouge. LSU soccer head coach Sian Hudson has signed three international players for the 2026 season. Berglind Hlynsdottir is a forward from Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, who scored five goals in 20 matches for top Icelandic club FH and netted two goals for Iceland's U19 squad in UEFA Euro qualifying. Marie Pues is a goalkeeper from Leuven, Belgium, who played for RSC Anderlecht, is a regular starter for Belgium's U19 national team. Rakel Sigurðardottir is a left-footed fullback from Kópavogur, Iceland, who made her senior debut at age 15 and won the prestigious 2023 Rey Cup with Breiðablik's U17 side. The trio joins previously announced signings Ryleigh Albin and Kylee Rocha, continuing LSU's strong pipeline of Icelandic talent that has included Ida Hermansdottir and Audur Scheving.

🔼 Round Two. No. 8 LSU men's golf sits T10 after the opening round of the SEC Championship, finishing five-under after clawing back from as low as 16th at the halfway point. Freshman Dan Hayes and junior Noah McWilliams both shot 2-under 68 to pace the Tigers, with McWilliams recording a team-high four birdies. Junior Jay Mendell added a 1-under 69 that included the first eagle of the tournament. The Tigers recorded eight birdies over the final four holes.
