Bayou Brew 4/27: To The Pros

Plus: LSU track & field dominates again.

Good morning, Tigers.

LSU put seven players into the 2026 NFL Draft, headlined by cornerback Mansoor Delane going No. 6 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs, making the Tigers the top pick out of the SEC for the third straight year.

Safety A.J. Haulcy (Colts) and wide receiver Zavion Thomas (Bears) went in the third round, followed by a busy sixth round that saw tight end Bauer Sharp land with the Buccaneers, receiver Barion Brown become the first Tiger drafted by the Saints since 2018, and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. go to the Falcons. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who threw for over 7,000 career yards and earned Senior Bowl MVP honors, capped the class as a seventh-round pick by Kansas City.

What else is mixed into today’s Bayou Brew?

🐯 And so much more!

🔼 A Career Milestone. Tori Edwards smashed her 100th career hit, a two-run homer in the sixth, to break a 3-3 tie and lift No. 20 LSU to a 5-3 win at No. 17 Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon. Kylee Edwards also went deep, marking the fifth time this season both Edwards players have homered in the same game. Paytn Monticelli was dominant in relief, going 7.0 innings and retiring eight straight batters at one point to earn her fourth consecutive win. LSU's defense turned three double plays, tying a program single-game record. The Tigers sit ninth in the SEC standings heading into their final regular-season week, with four home games remaining starting tomorrow against McNeese.

🔼 National Marks. SU track and field put up six top-10 national marks at the Alumni Gold meet on Saturday. Jaiden Reid headlined the sprints with a 20.31 in the 200 meters, good for No. 2 in the NCAA this season, while Jeremiah Walker ran a personal-best 20.40 right behind him for No. 7 nationally. Ella Onojuvwevwo clocked a 22.56 in the women's 200 meters to rank No. 6 in the country, adding to her already NCAA- and world-leading 400-meter time.

Isaac Lewis shaved nearly two seconds off his previous season best in the 400-meter hurdles, running a 49.51 to land No. 4 nationally and No. 6 on LSU's all-time list. The women's discus duo of Princesse Hyman (59.38m) and Leah Acosta (personal-best 58.81m) went 1-2, with Acosta jumping to No. 3 in LSU history and No. 8 in the NCAA.

🔼 Staff Complete. Head Coach Kim Mulkey rounded out her LSU women's basketball coaching staff over the weekend with the hiring of Murriel Page, a former third-overall WNBA draft pick who played 11 professional seasons before launching a college coaching career. Page arrives in Baton Rouge with stops at Florida, Central Michigan, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Miami, bringing a resume that includes a Sweet 16 appearance, four Mid-American Conference titles, and extensive post player development; she's helped coach multiple WNBA draft picks and All-Americans. A University of Florida Hall of Famer who scored 1,915 career points as a Gator, Page also carries international coaching experience with Canada's Senior Women's National Team.
