Bayou Brew 5/11: They're Elite!

Plus: Four honorees.

Good morning, Tigers.

No. 10-seeded LSU women's tennis punched its ticket to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight year with a 4-1 victory over No. 7 Virginia in Charlottesville! The Tigers secured the doubles point on the strength of wins from the Kuhl/Lanton and Erickson/McDonald pairings, then rode straight-set singles victories from Ella McDonald, Addison Lanton, and Cadence Brace to close it out. Lanton extended her winning streak to 12 matches and now has 21 singles wins on the season, while Brace clinched the match on the top court and improved to 11-0 with eight ranked victories.

LSU advances to face No. 2 Auburn in Athens, Ga., on Friday.

What else is mixed into today’s Bayou Brew?

🏆 Four Honorees
⚾ A Finalist Again
🐯 And so much more!

🔼 Regional Ready. No. 36 LSU women's golf opens NCAA Regional play today in Waco, Texas, looking to extend the program's school-record five straight advances to the NCAA Championships. The Tigers are the No. 6 seed in a 12-team field topped by No. 4 Texas A&M and also featuring SEC Champion Tennessee and American Champion Tulsa. LSU's lineup features three players ranked inside the top 100 nationally: Elsa Svensson (63rd), Francesca Fiorellini (70th), and All-SEC freshman Ryleigh Knaub (93rd), who leads the team with a 72.17 stroke average. The 54-hole tournament runs through Wednesday with the top five teams advancing to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California.

🔼 Hosting Regionals. LSU softball earned the No. 16 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host the Baton Rouge Regional for the 10th time in 11 years, welcoming Virginia Tech, Sun Belt Tournament Champion South Alabama, and MAC Champion Akron to Tiger Park. The Tigers open on Friday against Akron at 5:30 p.m. LSU is making its 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 27th overall, carrying a 37-17 record into the postseason after winning nine of its last 12 games.

🔼 Four Honorees. LSU landed four players on the All-SEC softball teams, led by junior shortstop Kylee Edwards on the First Team after a breakout debut season in Baton Rouge. Edwards hit .408 in conference play with eight homers and 23 RBI, and made history on April 3 at Missouri by becoming the first Tiger to hit for the cycle. Tori Edwards earned her second straight All-SEC nod after leading the team with 12 homers and 43 RBI, while Alix Franklin picked up her first selection behind an SEC-leading six triples. Senior Jalia Lassiter rounds out the group with a team-best .353 average, 60 hits, and 59 runs scored, carrying a perfect fielding percentage in the outfield for the second consecutive season.

🔼 A Finalist Again. LSU senior outfielder Chris Stanfield was named one of nine finalists for the Tony Gwynn Community Service Trophy for the second consecutive year; he won the inaugural award last season. Stanfield launched his "Be The 1" campaign at LSU, donating $100 to the Miracle League in Baton Rouge for every game with an extra-base hit or stolen base, after raising more than $10,000 for the Miracle League of East Alabama during his time at Auburn. He also volunteers with local schools and hospitals and participates in the Out of Darkness Walk for suicide prevention. A two-time SEC Community Service Team member and Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team honoree, Stanfield drew the highest praise from Coach Jay Johnson: "He's an 11 out of 10 human being."

🔼 Welcome to Baton Rouge. LSU gymnastics added a veteran all-arounder in Skyelar Kerico, a two-time GEC Gymnast of the Year from Penn who will use her final season of eligibility in Baton Rouge. She holds Penn program records on vault (9.925) and in the all-around (39.450), and became the school's first NCAA Regional all-around qualifier since 2013 last season. Kerico won three individual conference titles in 2025, the first Quaker to do that since 2001, and brings career highs of 9.950 on bars and 9.925 on beam. She's the first of three transfers joining the Tigers as they reload after a national runner-up finish in 2026.
