Bayou Brew 5/7: Ticket Punched!
Plus: The Palmer Cup is here.
Good morning, Tigers.
What a powerhouse! LSU men's golf extended its streak of NCAA Regional appearances to 17 straight, earning the No. 2 seed in the Marana Regional at The Gallery Golf Club from May 18-20. The Tigers are seeded behind No. 5 Oklahoma State in a 14-team field that includes Arizona, Alabama, and Duke. The top five teams and low individual from each regional advance to the NCAA Championship finals in Carlsbad, California.

⛳ Palmer Cup Return
📚 Classroom Champs
🐯 And so much more!

🔼 National Nod. LSU baseball senior Zac Cowan added to his weekly honors haul, landing on the Baseball America National Team of the Week after his 10.0 shutout innings across wins over Southeastern Louisiana and South Carolina. Cowan struck out 14 and allowed just four hits in his two appearances, earning both SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week and now national recognition for the same dominant stretch.

🔼 Palmer Cup Return. LSU men’s golf sophomore Arni Sveinsson was named to Team International for the second consecutive Arnold Palmer Cup, set for July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in Ireland. The Icelander helped Team International win last year's event with two match-point victories and enters this year ranked No. 11 in the world amateur rankings, having been as high as No. 8 this season. Sveinsson carries a 69.83 stroke average across 24 rounds this year, highlighted by a 13-under tournament win at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational. LSU head coach Jake Amos will also be on site as a co-assistant coach for Team International.

🔼 Welcome to Baton Rouge. LSU men's basketball added Jay Smith as Director of Player Development, bringing over four decades of college basketball experience to Baton Rouge. Smith won two Mid-American Conference titles as head coach at Central Michigan and helped recruit Michigan's legendary "Fab Five" during his seven years as an assistant in Ann Arbor. He worked with All-Americans Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, and Juwan Howard across six NCAA Tournament trips and is regarded as one of the top big man developers in the country.

Baton Rouge native Reed Vial returns to LSU as Executive Assistant to the Head Coach and Coordinator of External Relations, reuniting with Will Wade after working alongside him at McNeese and NC State. A former walk-on who played under both Johnny Jones and Wade, Vial graduated from LSU with a finance degree in 2018 and earned his MBA in sports marketing in 2021. He brings a diverse background that includes an internship at Nike World Headquarters, a stint with performance technology company Hyperice, and co-founding Baton Rouge sneaker business Footswagg with his younger brother. Vial will oversee basketball operations logistics while managing the program's external relations, marketing, and creative strategy.

🔼 Classroom Champs. For the first time in program history, every LSU athletic team scored a 960 or better in the NCAA's multi-year Academic Progress Rate, with six squads earning a perfect 1,000: gymnastics, women's tennis, volleyball, men's cross country, and men's and women's golf. Eleven teams posted perfect single-year APR scores for 2024-25, including football and women's basketball.
