Director of Recruiting Donovan Tate stops by to talk about the current
state of college athletics and what it means to become a Tiger.

🔼 Marchin’ On. The dominance started in the circle with freshman Jayden Heavener and continued on the scoreboard as the 10th-ranked LSU softball program marched on in the SEC Tournament with a 5-0 victory over 17th-ranked Mississippi State on Wednesday.
With Heavener’s fifth shutout of the season, she is tied at No. 8 in program history among freshmen in a single season (Allie Walljasper, 2015). In the one-hit, complete game shutout, Heavener fired 104 pitches, struck out eight batters and gave up no walks.
The Tigers finished with nine hits, including a trio of multi-hit performers. Outfielder Jalia Lassiter was 2-for-4 with two RBI, and infielders Sierra Daniel and Tori Edwards were 2-for-3 with one run scored. Infielder Avery Hodge (1-2, BB) matched Lassiter’s team-high two RBI.

🔼 The Great Eight. On the field of competition isn’t the only place the Tigers are having success, as 12 LSU programs recorded a 990 or better, including eight with a perfect 1,000 in the latest Academic Progress Rate report, released by the NCAA this week.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
LSU’s SEC Champion gymnastics teams led the way with a multi-year score of 1,000. Other teams recording a perfect multi-year score of 1,000 include men’s cross country, men’s tennis, women’s golf, women’s tennis, softball, beach volleyball and volleyball.

🔼 California Dreamin’. If they didn’t know, they surely know now… you never count out the Tigers.
For the second time in the past three years, the LSU women’s golf program came from outside the cut line on the final day to earn a school record fifth straight trip to the NCAA Championships with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Columbus Regional.
The Tigers posted a final round of 1-over 289 to earn the fifth and final qualifying spot at 18-over par 882, four shots ahead of Houston in sixth with Kent State another three shots back. SMU, which started the day in fifth place, fell to eighth at 890.
LSU put themselves in position with their play on the four par fives on the par 72 course, with the five players posting 12 under par on those holes, including a 133-yard slam dunk eagle by Taylor Riley on the par 5 12th hole.
🤔 TIGER TRIVIA

Safe to say that Jayden Heavener was nearly untouchable in yesterday’s victory at the SEC Tournament.
Who was the last LSU hurler to throw a one-hitter at the SEC Tourney?
