Bayou Brew 6/17: Nation's Best

Plus: The SEC slate is in for LSU women's hoops.

Good morning, Tigers.

What else is mixed into today’s Bayou Brew?

⚾ All-American Curiel
πŸ€ SEC Slate
🐯 And so much more!

πŸ”Ό All-American Curiel. LSU sophomore outfielder Derek Curiel earned ABCA Third-Team All-America honors after hitting a team-best .353 with 18 doubles, six homers, and 46 RBI. The Second-Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team selection finished the season on a 10-game hitting streak, batting .447 over that stretch. Curiel has started all 126 games of his LSU career and carries a .349 career batting average.

πŸ”Ό Nation’s Best. LSU track and field earned a nation-leading 20 First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, with 28 total across both squads. Jaiden Reid and Shawnti Jackson each claimed three First Team nods in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 relay. The men tallied 13 First Team and three Second Team selections, while the women added seven First Team and five Second Team honors. LSU's men finished fourth and the women 10th as a team in Eugene.

πŸ”Ό Best In State. LSU claimed the LSWA Hitter of the Year (Jalia Lassiter) and Newcomer of the Year (Kylee Edwards) for the second consecutive season, matching UL Lafayette as the only programs in state history to sweep both awards in back-to-back years. Lassiter batted .346 with 65 hits and 61 runs in a perfect defensive season without an error across her two-year LSU career. Edwards hit .341 with 10 home runs and became the first Tiger to hit for the cycle. Sierra Daniel earned All-Louisiana Honorable Mention for the second straight year.

πŸ”Ό SEC Slate. LSU women's basketball will host Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma at the PMAC in 2027, with road trips to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Auburn is the Tigers' rotating home-and-away opponent. Conference play begins Dec. 31 with the SEC Tournament returning to Greenville, S.C., March 3-7.

πŸ”Ό Front Office Built. LSU football completed its NFL-style front office structure under General Manager Billy Glasscock, adding Taylor Jacobs as Chief Strategy Officer, a first-of-its-kind position in college football and the first held by a woman nationally. Jacobs moves from her role as LSU's Associate Athletic Director of NIL to oversee the football program's brand strategy, revenue opportunities, and revenue share cap management. Adam Clark (internal operations) and JR Belton (external operations) round out the staff as assistant general managers.
