LSU sophomore outfielder Derek Curiel was selected No. 5 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2026 MLB Draft, becoming the sixth Tiger taken in the first round over the last five seasons. Curiel leaves Baton Rouge with a .349 career batting average, 101 RBI, and a Gold Glove after starting all 126 games of his LSU career. The 2025 National Freshman of the Year and 2025 national champion departs as one of the most decorated two-year players in program history.

🔼 Gone Pro. Jake Brown was taken No. 65 overall by the Seattle Mariners in the second round. The Sulphur, La., junior turned down the Rangers as a 16th-round pick out of high school to come to LSU, where he helped lead the Tigers to the 2025 national title, hitting .385 in the College World Series. Brown batted .309 with 16 homers this season before a hand injury ended his year with 17 games remaining.

Deven Sheerin went No. 128 overall to the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth round. The sophomore emerged as LSU's top reliever in 2026 with five saves and 58 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, including a dominant 3.1-shutout-inning save in the SEC Tournament win over Oklahoma.

Grant Fontenot was selected No. 299 overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 10th round. Fontenot recorded 42 strikeouts in 32.1 innings across 21 appearances this season and earned a national championship ring as a member of the 2025 squad.

Santiago Garcia went No. 372 overall to the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round. Garcia transferred from Oregon as a top-50 transfer pitcher and recorded 35 strikeouts across 21 appearances for the Tigers in 2026.

Connor Benge was taken No. 385 overall by the Miami Marlins in the 13th round. The senior from Texas made 16 appearances out of the bullpen in 2026 and earned a national championship ring with the 2025 squad.

Gavin Guidry was drafted in the 16th round, 480th overall to the New York Mets!

The Cleveland Guardians selected Zac Cowan in the 19th round with the 573rd overall pick.

🔼 Just Do It, Tigers. Four LSU athletes (football's Trey'Dez Green and Whit Weeks, women's basketball's ZaKiyah Johnson, and softball's Kylee Edwards) will be featured in Nike's national "Back to School" NIL campaign. Weeks and Edwards join the Nike Blue Ribbon Elite program, which launched at LSU in December 2025 as part of the brand's extended partnership with the university through 2036. Content for the campaign was shot across campus in Baton Rouge.

🔼 State’s Best. LSU placed four players on the LSWA All-Louisiana Baseball Team, with Derek Curiel and Steven Milam earning First Team honors and Cade Arrambide and Jake Brown landing on the Second Team. Curiel led the Tigers at .353 before being drafted No. 5 overall by the Pirates, while Milam reached base safely in 35 straight games and committed just four errors all season. Arrambide set the school record with four home runs in a single game at Tennessee, and Brown hit 16 homers before a hand injury ended his season with 17 games remaining.

🔼 Welcome to Baton Rouge. LSU women's tennis signed Nada Fouad, a 22-year-old Egyptian with more than 50 professional singles victories and career-high WTA rankings of No. 671 in singles and No. 614 in doubles. Fouad represented Egypt at the Billie Jean King Cup in 2026 and has captured two ITF doubles titles. She is the fifth addition of the Tigers' summer signing period.
