Bayou Brew 8/20: LSU Football: This is the Way
Seven LSU players have been named to the 2025 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team.
It’s time to get over the hump, LSU Fam. Seven LSU players have been named to the 2025 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team. The 16 league coaches voted on the preseason All-SEC team. Coaches could not vote for players on their team.
Leading the way for the Tigers are quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, linebacker Whit Weeks, and return specialist Barion Brown, who all earned first-team recognition.
Running back Caden Durham, wide receiver Aaron Anderson, linebacker Harold Perkins and wide receiver Zavion Thomas were selected to the second-team.
LSU opens its season on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Clemson in a matchup featuring Top 10 teams. The game will be televised on ABC and will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT.

🔼 The Big Easy, Bigger News. A unique neutral site doubleheader involving LSU’s two basketball programs is set for the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Compete 4 Cause Classic—a dynamic college basketball event that merges elite competition with meaningful community impact.
The opener of the doubleheader is a highly anticipated women’s match-up featuring the LSU Tigers, coached by Kim Mulkey, against her alma mater, Louisiana Tech. The second half of the doubleheader will feature the return matchup of the LSU men’s basketball team and the SMU Mustangs.
Game times and possible television coverage are TBA.

🔼 In the Words of Elle Woods, “What, Like It’s Hard?” Eleven LSU Gymnasts earned 2025 Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Scholastic All-America honors. To qualify, a gymnast must have a GPA of 3.50 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above.
LSU recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.4438 for the 2024-25 academic year, with over half the roster earning a spot on this year’s list. The program now owns 210 total scholastic All-America honors. Overall, 1,218 student-athletes earned a 3.5 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale, 76.8% of all reporting gymnasts.
