The Vault. With a mix of guts, will, heart and talent and spurred by a biased crowd that was the largest to watch a sporting event in the Louisiana Superdome, LSU (13-1) won its first football national championship in 45 years by pounding Heisman Trophy winner Jason White and topping his Oklahoma Sooners, 21-14, on January 4, 2004.

🔼 Starting Point. The first preseason poll has arrived! LSU football came in at No. 12 in the preseason AFCA Coaches Poll. The Tigers are coming off a 10-3 season that ended in a win over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl. While they’re going hard in fall camp, the Tigers are still taking time to serve the community. They packed 15,000 pounds to help fight food insecurity in Baton Rouge.

🔼  Top Tig. LSU linebacker Harold Perkins has been named to the 2024 Walter Camp Award Preseason Watch List. The award is presented to the Player of the Year by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Perkins is one of nine defensive players on the watch list.

🔼 Geaux For Gold. The Australian men’s basketball team that includes LSU Associate Head Coach David Patrick and former Tiger Duop Reath will take on the Olympic quarterfinals today! Australia will take on Serbia at 7:30 a.m. CT on USA Network and Peacock. The winner will meet the winner of Brazil vs. USA in the semifinals.

🔼 Mondo’s Game. Death. Taxes. Mondo Duplantis breaking world records. The former Tiger won his second Olympic gold medal yesterday in history-making fashion. He became the first back-to-back pole vault gold medalist at the Olympics since 1952. After securing the gold medal, he continued to try and beat the Olympic record and succeeded at 6.10 meters. He still wasn’t finished. He went on to break his ninth world record at 6.25 meters.
