Bayou Brew 9/1: A Labor of Love

As we bid adieu to summer, we look forward to some of the best LSU sports on this Labor Day weekend and celebrate the season-opening win in football.

Happy Labor Day, LSU Fam. Welp, the unofficial end of summer is upon us, so those who are not prone to prematurely pumpkin spicing everything (IYKYK) might be up in their feelings about this. Still, all can rest easy knowing that this is also the start of some of the best LSU sports, including a football dub to kick off the season (more on that below)!

Enjoy this sip-sized Brew on this Labor Day, as we’ll be back with your piping hot, Venti-sized edition tomorrow.

🎥 LSU+: THE HURRY UP

The Hurry Up | Trey'Dez Green Talks Game-Winning TD

Sophomore tight end Trey'Dez Green caught the game-winning touchdown on Saturday night to lift LSU over No. 4 Clemson at Memorial Stadium. He joins LSU Sports Radio Network Sideline Reporter Gordy Rush to break it all down.

🔼 Silencing the Naysayers. No. 9 LSU traveled to Clemson and came out victorious with a 17-10 win in the season opener on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for 230 yards and a touchdown on 28-for-38 passing. Aaron Anderson led all receivers with six catches for 99 yards. Running back Caden Durham posted 74 yards and a score on 17 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per touch. Defensively, linebacker Harold Perkins was everywhere, finishing with five tackles, two QB hurries and a sack. Cornerback Mansoor Delane flashed in his debut with an interception and two pass breakups.

And, now, we dance…

🔼 On the Board. LSU volleyball secured its first victory of the season in commanding fashion, sweeping South Alabama 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. With the win, the Tigers move to 1-1 on the year, while the Jaguars fall to 0-2.

🔼 Sundays Are For Soccer and Stepping Up to the Plate … Er, Pitch. Not only did the LSU soccer team take the Sunday dub over UC Davis, but this freshman proved her worth and then some:

🔼 Big Wins in The Big Easy. The LSU men’s and women’s cross-country teams both earned top-three finishes to open up the year at the Battle for New Orleans hosted at Lake Oaks Park.

Leading the way for the women was freshman Micaela Villarreal, who took third overall with a time of 13:40.17, nine seconds from first in her collegiate opener. On the men’s side, sophomore Emedy Kiplimo led with a time of 14:29.19 to finish fourth as an individual.

Sophomore Árni Sveinsson was named First Team All-American by the Golf Channel, while Dan Hayes was tabbed Second Team All-Freshmen. Sveinsson has been racking up honors this preseason as the hype for the sophomore continues. This week, he was already named to Golfweek Magazine’s First Team All-American squad and the Haskins Watch List. Hayes signed with LSU as the number one junior in Europe. The freshman has an impressive resumé and will look to make an immediate impact in the program.

🔼 And the Magic Eight Ball Says… For the LSU women’s golf team, eight was the number again on Friday as The Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine posted his preseason rankings for the 2025-26 wraparound season. LSU was also ranked eighth in the preseason Golfweek rankings.

Also, just like Golfweek, LSU’s Rocio Tejedo was selected as a preseason second-team All-American by Romine.
