The Hurry Up | Dashawn Spears Talks Big Night for LSU Secondary
Sophomore safety Dashawn Spears recaps his best night in a Tiger uniform, reeling into two interceptions, on the latest edition of The Hurry Up with Gordy Rush.

🔼 Par For the Course. The No. 7-ranked LSU men’s golf team is set to make its second appearance of the Fall in Lake Bluff, Ill., at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Held annually since 2021, the Jackson T. Stephens Cup pairs the nation’s top collegiate golfers with world-class venues. The Tigers enter this week as the second-highest ranked team at the tournament, holding a No. 7 ranking from Golfweek.

The event is set to be played at the par-71, 6,530-yard Shoreacres course. It’s located just off the shore of Lake Michigan in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Golf course architect Seth Raynor’s design includes ravines that factor into thirteen of the eighteen holes.

🔼 Do NOT Sleep On This Squad. The LSU volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with a decisive 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 26-24) sweep over in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The Tigers turned in one of their most complete performances of the season, hitting a season-high .350 with 48 kills while holding the Lions to a .194 attack percentage. LSU also registered five service aces, 43 digs, and three blocks, marking the fourth straight match the defense has kept its opponent under .200 hitting.

🔼 Leaders of the Pack. The LSU men’s and women’s cross-country teams both earned team wins on Friday as the Tigers hosted the LSU Invitational at the UREC Field Complex.

The women took the team win with a point total of 17, placing seven Tigers in the top 10 en route to victory. Freshman Edna Chepkemoi got the individual win in her first cross-country meet with the Tigers, clocking 9:54.70 in the 3k split of her relay. The duo of Ahry Comer and Abigal Chepkemoi won the relay portion of the LSU Invitational, putting up a 2x3k time of 20:47.2.

On the men’s side, LSU finished first with a point total of six, with five men finishing in the top 10 individually. Emedy Kiplimo finished first for the Tigers and second overall with his 4k-split time of 12:09.90.

🔼 A Defensive Master Class. The LSU Soccer Team (5-3-1, 0-0-1 SEC) battled it out to a 0-0 draw on the road against No. 13 Vanderbilt (6-1-1, 0-0-1 SEC) on Friday night inside the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. It was a defensive display from both teams. LSU’s Audur Scheving finished the night with a season-high seven saves.

The biggest moment of the match came in the 85th minute. The ball bounced into the LSU box and found the feet of a Commodore attacker, who shot from eight yards in front of goal. Scheving dove to her left and parried the ball away to deny the Commodores a late goal.

🔼 Men’s Golf, the Origin Story. At Louisiana State University, the word champion is a very familiar one. The university’s athletics programs have a tradition of excellence and a constant pursuit of winning championships. However, long before the colors purple and gold represented national titles, Colonel J. Perry Cole was already laying the foundation for this victory culture.

Cole, rightfully known as the “Father of LSU Golf,” led his players to numerous victories that made history, building a standard of champions that continues to inspire LSU Athletics today. His legacy lies not only in his success as a coach, but in the contributions he made to his country, his state, and the LSU community.
