Bayou Brew 9/17: Gayden the Trey-Maker

We’ve been doing features on the six LSU greats to be inducted into the 2025 LSU Athletics Hall of Fame class, and the latest is WBB All-American Cornelia Gayden.

Good morning, LSU Fam. ICYMI! We’ve been doing features on the six LSU greats to be inducted into the 2025 LSU Athletics Hall of Fame class to be enshrined on Friday, Sept. 19. The latest is women’s basketball All-American Cornelia Gayden, the most prolific three-point shooter in school history.

Before her time at LSU, Gayden played high school ball in her hometown—about 100 miles from Baton Rouge—leading Bogue Chitto High to three consecutive state titles and receiving the Ms. Basketball award for the state of Mississippi in 1990.

Gayden played for the Tigers for four years from 1991-95 under legendary head coach Sue Gunter. She was way ahead of her time when it came to shooting the rock; twice she led the conference in three-pointers made.

What else is stirring in today’s piping hot Brew? Check it out below!

🎥 LSU+: THE PATH

The Path | Take 5 | S4 EP3
LSU Football returns to Death Valley to host Florida in a rivalry game that always seems to deliver. The 72nd rendition was no different, which featured a light show, Charles Alexander's jersey retirement, the return of the Gold Game and five interceptions from LSU's secondary.

🔼 When They Go High, We Go Low. The No. 7 LSU Men’s Golf team closed stroke play with a 14-under performance (278, 268, 280) through all three rounds, entering match play as the top seed at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. The tournament is held at the par-70, 6,530-yard Shoreacres course.

The Tigers’ stellar performance over the last two days has them sitting ready to play the second-place team finisher in stroke play, No. 18 North Carolina. The winner of match play will be crowned Stephens Cup team champions. The final day will be live on Golf Channel today from 3 to 6 p.m. CT.

🔼 Yep, This Tracks. This guy is unstoppable!

And how can you not love this!? 👇🏼

🔼 BK Breaks it Down. It was all about that immaculate Play Action Fake.

🔼 Anchor Women. For LSU soccer, the anchors of the team have been a center back duo that only arrived in Baton Rouge last season. Seniors Jazmin Ferguson and Sydney Cheesman quickly became a backbone in the Tigers’ defense, both starting in 20+ matches in their debut season last year, combining for over 3,200 minutes.

Ferguson, now captain of LSU’s 2025 squad, left mid-major East Carolina with dreams to play in the SEC. After a few visits, she said there was “no place like Baton Rouge,” and loved the consistent fan base and welcoming community. Cheesman transferred to LSU after playing two seasons at North Carolina. She said her decision to transfer to LSU became clear after her visit.

The center back pair quickly developed chemistry both on and off the field.

🔼 She’s Such a Vibe. But might we recommend more sensible shoes? 👠
