Good morning, Tigers. LSU legend Jerry Stovall passed away in Baton Rouge on Monday at the age of 85. A unanimous all-America halfback in 1962, Stovall was named the conference's Most Valuable Player and finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up that season before being taken in the first round of the 1963 NFL Draft.

He starred nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, earning three Pro Bowl nods as a safety, then returned to LSU and served as head coach from 1980-83, earning Walter Camp Coach of the Year honors in 1982. Stovall was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and his No. 21 jersey was retired in Tiger Stadium in 2018.

🔼 National Spotlight. Jurnee Robinson's big opening weekend just got bigger. The LSU senior outside hitter was named AVCA Division I Player of the Week yesterday, one day after picking up SEC Player of the Week honors. She's the first Tiger to earn the AVCA honor since Sam Dabbs in 2009.

🔼 Preseason Praise. LSU's Árni Sveinsson has picked up a second preseason honor in as many days, landing on Golfweek's Third Team All-America list Tuesday after Golf Channel named him an honorable mention selection the day before. Sveinsson earned GCAA PING All-Southeast Region honors last season along with spots on the Haskins Award Watch and Ben Hogan Award Watch List. He posted a 70.39 stroke average across 31 rounds in 2025-26.

🔼 Meet Week. LSU track & field is back at it this week! The Tigers will compete at the Battle For New Orleans on Friday.

🔼 Summer Standouts. LSU baseball has handed out its Summer 2026 team awards, with junior outfielder Bino Watters taking Player of the Year honors. Watters earned Cape Cod League All-Star recognition with the Chatham Anglers and won the team's Thurman Munson Most Outstanding Position Player Award, batting .318 with seven doubles and 29 RBI over 35 games. Freshman right-hander Coleton Brady was named the Summer Weight Room Winner, while senior infielder Cade Kurland was recognized for helping lead the Harwich Mariners to the Cape Cod League Championship. Kurland chipped in eight doubles, two homers, and 15 RBI across 30 games in the title run.
