Bayou Brew 9/24: The SEC Opponents Are Here

LSU Football will play Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M annually beginning in 2026, the SEC announced on Tuesday.

Good morning, LSU Fam. LSU Football will play Arkansas, Ole Miss and Texas A&M annually beginning in 2026, the SEC announced on Tuesday. The league office announced opponents and sites for SEC football games for the 2026 through 2029 seasons. The new scheduling is a result of the league implementing a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2026.

In the new format, each SEC school will play every other SEC school at least once every two years, and every opponent home and away over four years, making it the fairest and most balanced schedule in the history of the Conference.

Under the new format, each school will play three annual opponents focused on maintaining many traditional rivalries, and each team’s remaining six games will rotate among the remaining conference schools. The SEC will continue with a single-standings, non-divisional structure.

🎥 LSU+: THE PATH

The Path | It’s About Us | S4 EP4
LSU Football returns to Death Valley with a sense of urgency. Winners of three-straight, the No. 3 Tigers shift their focus inward, looking to block out the narratives and improve in all phases as in-state opponent Southeastern comes to town.

🔼 This D-Line is No Joke. At LSU, defense isn’t just a position group, it’s a legacy – a collection of men whose names remain etched in the lore of Death Valley. A brotherhood that is founded on toughness, grit and physicality. A unit filled with energy, focus and urgency.

For senior edge rusher Patrick Payton, LSU presented a perfect opportunity to not only join a list of legends, but also a touted program that he believed would take him to the next step.

After his senior year in high school, Payton committed to Florida State and played four seasons. He was awarded the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022, but after a disappointing 2024 season at Florida State, Payton decided to explore his options by entering the portal.

Payton traveled to Baton Rouge to dive into the culture and prestigious program of LSU Football, and the rest, as they say, is history … in the making.

🔼 What Pressure? LSU sophomore Francesca Fiorellini kept her game together on a cool Tuesday afternoon in Wolcott, Colorado, and is tied for the lead entering Wednesday’s final round of the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at the Red Sky Ranch and Golf Club.

Fiorellini is tied for the lead with Southern California’s Jasmine Koo, who had rounds of 67-68. Another USC player, Kylie Chong, is third at 8-under par 136.

The LSU women’s golf team finished the second round in third place in the 20-team field.

🔼 Tigers On Top. ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit unveiled his Top 5 teams in College Football during his podcast this week, with LSU at No. 1, which is where he ranked the Tigers last week.

Kirk's Top Five:
1. LSU
2. Penn State
3. Ohio State
4. Miami
5. Georgia

Herbstreit made no changes in his Top Five from last week, but says a shakeup is coming following a big weekend of marquee matchups, "By the way, all of these are going to change next week," Herbstreit said.

🔼 Now That You Mention It. After a killer Saturday, LSU signal-caller Garrett Nussmeier gets a Week 4 Honorable Mention on The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List.

Coach Kelly’s breakdown of the week is Zavion Thomas’ TD, discussing the old “Montana spin” by Nussmeier: 👇🏼

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: UCLA!

Birdies on the final two holes of play, including one on the 18th hole after a one-hour delay, allowed LSU sophomore Francesca Fiorellini to become the first Tiger women’s golfer to post a school record 9-under 63 in collegiate competition on Monday. Fiorellini, who transferred to LSU after her freshman season at UCLA, posted nine birdies and no bogeys to become the first LSU female to shoot 63.
