Bayou Brew 8/11: The Bigger Picture
Today, LSU football takes the spotlight after volunteering, landing on more watch lists, and fall camp.
Good morning. With each day comes more professional Tiger highlights. Paul Skenes got his first professional start yesterday and recorded his first strikeout in the first inning… Lots of firsts there. Tre’ Morgan was called up from the development league to A-ball and will be playing for the Charleston RiverDogs. To cap it off — or walk it off — Aliyah Andrews got the walk-off win for her team in the Athletes Unlimited series.
What else did we pour into today's Brew?
🏈 Giving back
🏀 Basketball in the Bahamas
🐯 And much, much more!
Fall Camp. We have all the week one highlights from fall camp just for you! Consistency, laser-focus, and grit are key as LSU build on good habits from the summer and put those traits into practice.
The Real Deal. Wide receiver Kyren Lacy joins Taylor Jacobs and Jordan Arcemont on the latest edition of The Real Deal to discuss his Path to becoming a Tiger and everything he’s learned from the ever-evolving NIL landscape from a student-athlete prospective.

🔼 Bigger Picture. The work doesn’t stop on the field for the LSU football team. After they spent some time recovering on their off day, they went to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to spend two hours packing 30,000 pounds of food and 1,500 pounds of dry beans in 1,800 boxes for families in the area. They seemed to have a pretty good time doing it, Trey Holly even took over the camera! The team had a great bonding experience while also giving back and making a difference in their community.
🔼 Double Down. The preseason watch list for the Butkus Award was released yesterday and featured two Tigers! Linebackers Harold Perkins and Omar Speights made the cut for the award given to the top linebackers in football. Harold was a 2022 First Team All-SEC AP selection and Freshman All-American. Omar earned 2022 First Team All-PAC 12 honors and was a Freshman All-American at Oregon State.
🔼 Sweep Vacation. The LSU men’s basketball team finished their tour in Paradise yesterday, defeating Obras of Argentina 118-79. Jordan Wright led the team with 27 points, Will Baker wasn’t far behind with 19. Trae Hannibal led the team with 9 rebounds and 11 assists. The Tigers went 3-0 on their trip with some big wins. We have some more vlog footage for you thanks to Trace Young! Check out the guys’ off day in the Bahamas.
🔼 She’s Stone Cold. LSU golfer Latanna Stone had an exciting day at the U.S. Women’s Amateur yesterday, making a nice comeback to force extra holes and advance to the quarterfinals. She had to win two matches yesterday to move on. Taylor Riley won her first match yesterday but fell in the round of 16. Latanna will face Thienna Huynh, who beat Taylor, today at 4:20pm CT. Coverage will begin at 5:00pm CT on the Golf Channel.
🔼 Soccer. LSU soccer will be taking on one final exhibition match tomorrow before the regular season starts on Thursday. The Tigers will be playing at Air Force at 7:00pm CT tomorrow night as they wrap up their trip to Colorado. The team has been taking on the sights and had some time to go rafting! The Tigers will be home to host South Florida on Thursday, August 16 at 6:00pm.
