Bayou Brew 5/12: Final stretch

Today, we're closing in on the final stretch of the regular baseball season.

Good morning. Today we’re honoring men’s golf player Garrett Barber for making the SEC Men’s Golf Community Service Team! Good work, Garrett!

What's steeping in today's Brew?

⚾️ SEC series at “The Box”
🏈 Field trip to Africa
🐯 And much, much more!

Eye To Eye. Yesterday was a big one in the NFL as it was schedule release day. Let’s go back to our Eye to Eye episode with NFLSU Tiger Tyrann Mathieu. The Super Bowl Champion caught up with us and shared his devotion to LSU and much more.

🔼 Final Home Stand. The LSU baseball team hosts their final regular season home series this weekend when Mississippi State comes to town. Hear what Coach Jay Johnson has to say about the final bout in “The Box.” The Bulldogs are on a six-game losing streak after being swept by Tennessee and Arkansas. The Mississippi State pitching staff has been struggling, holding a 6.74 ERA as they sit 6-18 in conference play. The series kicks off tonight at Alex Box Stadium at 7:30pm and goes through Sunday afternoon.

🔼 Across The Pond. Eleven football players are going to study abroad in Dakar, Senegal for eight days. LSU football has never participated in the study abroad program. They’ll be introduced to Senegal’s culture and its ties to Louisiana. Players going include Noah Cain, Chris Hilton, Emery Jones, Malik Nabers, West Weeks, Josh Williams, Mekhi Wingo, Bo Bordelon, Javen Nicholas, Fitzgerald West, and Slade Roy.

🔼 On The Track. If you didn’t know already, the SEC Outdoor Championships are going on here in Baton Rouge! Shani’a Bellamy and Sean Burrell qualified for the men and women’s 400m hurdle finals last night. Favour Ofili took first-place in the 200m hurdle prelims and advanced to the finals along with Thelma Davies. Michaela Rose won the 800m prelims as the only runner under 2:04.

🔼 Classical. The LSU men’s basketball team will compete in the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic, try to say that five times fast. This will be just the second time the Tigers have competed in the tournament, the first being in 2011. The field features Dayton, Houston, LSU, North Texas, St. John’s, Towson, Utah, and Wake Forest. We’re already looking forward to the November 16th weekend!

The Long Ball. There are four LSU baseball players with more than 10 home runs.

Do you know who has the most homers on the team?
