🔼 Hall For Paul. LSU baseball and elite pitchers named Paul seem to go hand in hand. Former LSU pitcher Paul Byrd will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. In 1989, Paul was named Freshman of the Year on the All-Louisiana College Baseball Team. His Tigers won the 1991 College World Series for their first baseball national championship. He became Cleveland’s fourth round pick in the 1991 MLB Draft. Paul would go on to spend 14 years in the majors, where he was named to the 1999 National League All-Star team, led the American League in complete games in 2002, and was the leagues shutout leader in 2007. After baseball, he has won three Emmys as a Fox Sports broadcaster.
The 2023 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Celebration is today through Saturday in Natchitoches. Tickets are available at LaSportsHall.com.
🔼 Cheer On. There’s a new head cheer coach in town and her name is Maddie Parten! She has also been named LSU’s Spirit and Traditions Coordinator. She was on the Liberty cheerleading coaching staff and helped lead them to a top-10 showing at UCA College Nationals. Prior to coaching, she was a cheerleader at Ole Miss and won a national championship in the game day division.
🔼 Amateur Hour. Four LSU women’s golfers teed off at the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship yesterday. Ingrid Lindblad, Carla Tejedo, Aine Donegan, and Edit Hertzman are 4 of 144 players in the tournament that features four rounds of stroke play with a 54-hole cut for the top 60. Ingrid is the No. 1 ranked amateur in the world and won this event in 2021, she is representing Sweden with Edit. The winner will have an automatic berth to the AIG Women’s Open.
⛳️ Carla took control of round one, scoring 4-under 67 and holding the lowest score of the round. She leads by two strokes going into round two. Ingrid is right behind her, tied for second-place with 2-under 69.
⛳️ Taylor Riley is currently playing in the California Women’s Amateur Championship and she is heading to the round of 16 today.
🔼 Throwback Thursday. Do you remember? Twenty years ago, the Tigers returned to glory for the first time in 45 years. LSU went 13-1 in the 2003 season and defeated No. 1 Oklahoma in the Nokia Sugar Bowl, which was the BCS National Championship Game.
The 2003 National Championship team will be honored at the Florida game on November 11.
