Bayou Brew 7/5: He's So Golden
Today, we have awards, All-Stars, and summer basketball.
Good morning. We understand that you might be moving slow this morning after the long holiday weekend, but we’re here to make that better with a full Brew! If you didn’t get to enjoy enough fireworks last night, here are some more from Alex Box Stadium.
What else is in today's Brew?
⚾️ More awards for Crews & Skenes
🏀 Tigers play in the NBA Summer League
🐯 And much, much more!
Celebrate Good Times. If the first video of this Brew didn’t provide enough firework action for you, there’s plenty more when you watch the 2023 Baseball National Championship Celebration. Hear from Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews, Jay Johnson, and others as they describe the championship and what the state of Louisiana means to them.

🔼 He’s So Golden. Golden Spikes, Gold Glove, it doesn’t matter when your name is Dylan Crews. The National Champion keeps on adding to his trophy case, becoming one of three outfielders on the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove team. He’s now the fifth LSU player to receive a Gold Glove award.
🔼 Paul Does All. The awards don’t stop there, Paul Skenes was named D1 Baseball’s National Player of the Year. This honor will sit next to his Dick Howser Trophy, Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year honor, MCWS Most Outstanding Player honor, and SEC Pitcher of the Year honor. He finished second in the nation in ERA and first in strikeouts.
📚 Additionally, twelve Tiger baseball players were named to the SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll.
✍️ Cody Worsham recapped his experience in Omaha as “unlike anything we’ve ever seen.” Check out his piece here.
🔼 Hey Now, You’re An All-Star. Former LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman was named to the 2023 American League All-Star team, earning the All-Star recognition for the second time in his 11-season MLB career. Kevin played for LSU in 2011 and 2012 and has had stints with the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, and Toronto Blue Jays since. He holds a 3.04 ERA this season and leads the American League in strikeouts with 146. Congratulations, Kevin!
🔼 Summer Shuffle. Two former LSU Tigers are on NBA 2023 Summer League rosters this week. KJ Williams will be playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Javonte Smart will be with the Philadelphia 76ers. Both teams play Memphis and Utah tonight on NBA TV and they will play each other tomorrow night at 6:00pm CT on ESPN2.
