Bayou Brew 4/6: It's A Parade Inside My City

Today, we're recapping the national champion parade and there's action on the diamonds as baseball and softball start early series.

Good morning. Happy National Student Athlete Day! Celebrate this morning with a Tommy Tanks oppo taco or a Raeleen Gutierrez homer since both of these bats will be back on the diamond tonight.

What's steeping in today's Brew?

🐯 And much, much more!

The Climb. Prepare for the NCAA Gymnastics Championships with The Climb. This docu-series goes inside LSU gymnastics throughout the entire season. You can find Central Region Gymnast of the Year Haleigh Bryant's story here. The semifinals begin a week from today on April 13th, so catch up now!

🔼  It's A Parade Inside My City, Yeah! You can break out some moves like Coach KIM Mulkey or wear a ring pop like Flau'jae, we'll be celebrating this one all year long! LSU fans showed up and showed out in yesterday's parade through campus. The party continued in the PMAC with a trophy presentation and a whole lot of fun brought by the coaching staff and players. If you missed anything, you can watch the entire celebration again here.

🔼 Wheel's Up. The LSU baseball team is headed to South Carolina for a top-10 conference series with the sixth-ranked Gamecocks. The Tigers are 6-3 against top-15 opponents, which were all conference foes... so that should tell you how powerful the SEC is right now. The fun starts tonight at 6:00pm on SEC Network+.

This matchup will be no easy feat, South Carolina has a great lineup and a lock down bullpen. Their bats are led by Ethan Petry and Gavin Casas. Petry has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for three weeks in a row as he holds a .439 average and has hit 13 long balls. Casas leads the team with 15 home runs and the team as a whole leads the nation in total homers. The Gamecock pitching staff holds a 2.98 ERA, with three pitchers throwing below 2.00.

What the Gamecocks don't have is a guy named Dylan Crews, who leads the country in batting average, on-base percentage, and runs scored. As a team, LSU leads the nation in batting average. Paul Skenes is first in conference and 2nd overall with a minuscule ERA of 0.89. Good luck to anyone who wants to hit well against him.

🔼 Tigers vs. Tigers. The 11th-ranked LSU softball team is welcoming the other Tigers of Missouri for an SEC series tonight. If you haven't been paying attention to softball, now is the time. Our Tigers are 31-6 overall and have brought in four weekly conference awards, including two in as many weeks. LSU is ranked second in the conference in hits (314) and have the lowest ERA (1.90).

Hot Cup Of Coffey. This week, Danieca Coffey picked up her first SEC Player of the Week honor. She dominated last week's Purple & Gold Challenge, batting .583 with 7 walks and 6 runs scored. She was also a threat on the bases, stealing four times. Coffey sits at the top of the SEC in hits with 54 and a batting average of .446.

The Other Tigers. The Missouri Tigers are 21-16 overall and have a 2-10 conference record. Those two conference wins weren't easy ones, taking one game from 8th ranked Florida and run ruling 17th ranked Alabama last weekend. One to watch for Mizzou would be outfielder Alex Honnold, who is one of the most consistent hitters in the conference with a .429 average and 8 home runs. The Missouri pitching staff holds a 2.93 ERA.

The show begins today at 12:00pm on SEC Network.

🔼 NILSU. LSU has found a way to get a good foundation in the new world of NIL pretty quickly. According to On3's Women's Top 100 NIL update, LSU has eight women on the top 100 list.

LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne takes the No. 1 spot with women's basketball stars Angel Reese behind her in fifth, Flau'jae Johnson in seventh, Alexis Morris in 34th, gymnast Haleigh Bryant in 52nd, women's basketball player Jasmine Carson in 60th, track star Alia Armstrong in 70th, and women's basketball's Kateri Poole in 96th.

Angel Reese has more NIL deals than anyone in college basketball with 17. Jennifer Roberts has been a huge asset to the women's basketball team since she was hired as Director of Player Personnel and Influence.

LSU football's Jayden Daniels and Harold Perkins also rank on the overall top 100 list.

Dominating The Diamond. LSU baseball is chasing a championship this season. They've been ranked No. 1 throughout the entire season so far.
