Hear Ye, Hear Ye. Fall camp started yesterday, and Coach Brian Kelly met with the media to wrap up the day. He touched on expectations, depth across the board, and much more. 🔼 All About Community. We’re still watching those preseason lists, and today we have running back Josh Williams making the Wuerffel Trophy preseason watch list! The Wuerffel Trophy is one of the most meaningful awards in college sports, it’s given college football’s most impactful leader in community service. Josh Williams has worked his way to becoming a key factor in the LSU offense, after walking-on in 2019. He was awarded the Percy E. Roberts Offensive Player of the Year for LSU last season.
🔼 DBU. The Tiger have officially taken the DBU title, according to ESPN’s David Hale. He broke down Position U across college football, and credits Derek Stingley Jr.’s debut season for the Tigers taking the DBU cake this year. LSU has had eight defensive backs drafted since the 2019 season, and Hale predicts Major Burns is up next. SEC opponents Alabama, Florida, and Georgia also made the top-10.
🔼 Movin’ On Up. To no one’s surprise, Dylan Crews is moving up fast in the minor leagues. In his first professional game in the Florida Complex League, DC went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. He is expected to join the Nationals’ Single-A team, Fredericksburg Nationals, this weekend.
🔼 Level Up. Yesterday, Governor John Bel Edwards signed a ceremonial bill to create specialty license plates in honor of the 2023 women’s basketball national championship. The bill was signed in the PMAC with Coach Mulkey and Gov. Edwards. More information on how to purchase the 2023 LSU National Championship plate will be released later.
The first Wuerffel Trophy was awarded to an LSU Tiger in 2005.
