🔼 Monday Madness. They say that diamonds are formed under pressure, and the pressure is on as LSU meets Iowa in the Elite Eight for a National Championship rematch! The Tigers battled with two-seed UCLA to come out on top, 78-69. Flau’Jae Johnson lit up the score sheet, scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. Angel Reese got her 26th double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The Tigers will play No. 1 Iowa tonight at 6:15 pm on ESPN. Click here to watch the Elite Eight press conference.
🔼 Barks, Bombs, & Brooms. Saturday was a fun day for LSU softball that include lots of pups, a sweep of No. 11 Texas A&M, and an Ali Newland grand slam. The Tigers secured the series win on Friday with a 5-1 dub over the Aggies. LSU scored all five runs in the final two innings for the win. Saturday’s 9-3 win was also a rally, as they were down 3-2 going into the sixth inning. Sydney Berzon earned all three wins this weekend, the first time that’s happened in an SEC series since 2011. The Tigers are now 29-4 overall.
🔼 Beat The Best. The beach volleyball team took down No. 1 USC on Saturday at the Death Volley Invitational. Amber Haynes & Skylar Martin earned the first dual point of the match. The duos of Parker Bracken & Reilly Allred and Aubrey O’Gorman & Ella Larkin also picked up wins to take down the Trojans, 3-2. The Tigers then lost to No. 2 UCLA and went 1-3 overall at the tournament.
🔼 Hard Fight In Fayetteville. LSU baseball battled hard against top-ranked Arkansas at their place, but couldn’t come home with a win. Friday night’s game went into extra innings before the Razorbacks walked it off in the 10th inning. Luke Holman got the start and threw five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Griffin Herring came on in relief and shut down the Hogs, firing 4.2 scoreless innings. Saturday’s game was looking good as the Tigers led 4-1 in the fourth inning. Tommy White hit his ninth homer of the year to lead off the game. Ashton Larson took the lead back with a two-run dinger in the third before Mac Bingham hit a homer in the fourth. Arkansas responded and the Tigers fell 7-5. They’ll be back in action tonight, hosting Southern at 6:30 pm on SEC Network+.
🔼 Try To Keep Up. It was a big weekend on the track as LSU hosted the Battle on the Bayou and Ella Chesnut ran the 10k at the Raleigh Relays. She broke the LSU 10,000m record and finished eighth overall. Back at home, Leah Phillips won the 400m hurdles with Shani’a Bellamy right behind her. Lorena Rangel-Batres and Michaela Rose also finished first and second in the 1500m. Morgan Smalls took gold in the women’s long jump. On day two, Brianna Lyston posted the fastest-career opening time in collegiate history for the 100m! She came in second behind former Tiger Favour Ofili.
On the men’s side of the track, Da’Marcus Fleming won the 200m on day one. Claudio Romero kept the gold at home, winning the discus throw with a nation-leading throw of 63.10m. Former Tiger JuVaughn Harrison won the long jump.
