🔼 Seven On The Line. The first one went our way. The second one didn’t. It’s all evened up and LSU will attempt to win their seventh College World Series title against Florida in tonight’s rubber match for the 2023 NCAA title at Charles Schwab Field.
First pitch is at 6:00pm CT and you can watch the game on ESPN or head on over to ESPN+ for the livestream.
🔼 In Golden Company. The best of the best. Dylan Crews was named the 45th winner of the Golden Spikes Award this weekend—honoring the top amateur baseball player in the country based on their athletic ability, sportsmanship, character, and overall contribution to the sport. He’s the second LSU player in program history to earn the award, joining 1989 winner Ben McDonald.
Dylan Crews has been one of college baseball’s biggest stars in 2023, leading the Tigers to the College World Series Finals while sitting near the top of the national leaderboard in most offensive categories. The junior has reached base in all 69 games in 2023 and became the program leader last night in runs scored in a single season with 96. He owns a .562 on-base percentage, good for second in the nation, while his 104 hits rank fifth and his .418 batting average is sixth-best in the country.
🔼 That Smarts. LSU senior women’s golfer Ingrid Lindblad added another honor as she was named to this season’s Academic All-America Women’s At-Large First Team. The At-Large category, in addition to golf, covers such women’s sports as lacrosse, fencing, beach volleyball, rowing, skiing, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, and rifle.
She was a four-time consensus first-team All-America for her efforts on the course where she has 11 collegiate wins, earned the No. 1 ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, and graduated this past May with her degree from LSU. The native of Sweden posted a 3.94 GPA in Sports Administration.
This past season she averaged 70.65 and has the top four stroke averages in LSU history—all under 71.00 strokes per round. She posted two wins this past season. She finished tied for fifth in the NCAA Championships in May and is coming off a semifinal round appearance in the prestigious Women’s Amateur Championship in England this past week.
🔼 All Adds Up. Another one! LSU Gymnastics is adding graduate transfer Savannah Schoenherr to the squad for the upcoming 2024 season—who will be joining after making three NCAA Championship Final appearances with Florida.
So, how pumped should we be? Let’s take a look at those accomplishments…
✅ Three-time All-American
✅ Three-time Scholastic All-American
✅ Five-time SEC Academic Honor Roll and All-SEC member
She set multiple career highs during her senior season in 2022, including career bests on vault to share the win at the NC State quad meet and on bars against Arkansas. She owns career highs of 9.975 on vault, 9.975 on bars, 9.875 on beam, and 9.925 on floor.
Cloud nine. After today, you’ve only got nine Mondays to get through until LSU football kicks off their season opener against FSU at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.
Nine… the same number of regular season wins the Tigers earned last season… which got us thinking:
What opponent did LSU win by the largest margin of victory in the regular season last year?
