Bayou Brew 6/2: Shine bright

Today, we're talking all things diamond sports.

Good morning. Whew, it’s been a long week without LSU sports happening, but that all changes today. It’s NCAA Regional time in Baton Rouge!

What's steeping in today's Brew?

⚾️ All-American boys
🥎 Gold Glove winner
🐯 And much, much more!

The Climb. Great news for you, The Climb docuseries is now free on LSU Gold for the next two weeks! Ten episodes take you through the entire gymnastics season and preview next year. You can start here with episode one.

🔼 America’s Player. It’s to no one’s surprise that our very own Paul Skenes was named Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year. Nobody does it like Paul, he leads the nation in strikeouts, strikeouts per nine innings, and WHIP. He sits at No. 2 on LSU’s all-time single-season strikeouts list. He’s not just a great baseball player, he’s also a giving person. Paul has pledged $10 for every strikeout this season to Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that gives educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military and first responders who have died or been disabled. Congratulations, Paul!

🔼 Let’s Get Down To Business. The time has finally come, it’s NCAA Tournament time in “The Box.” The Tigers take on Tulane at 2:00pm this afternoon in game one. The loser will play either Sam Houston or Oregon State tomorrow at 2:00pm and the winner will play tomorrow at 8:00pm. You can check out the entire bracket here.

🔼 All-American Boys. We’re not done yet. Three Tigers were named 2023 First-Team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball.

🇺🇸 Dylan Crews. The back-to-back SEC Player of the Year earned All-American thanks to his SEC leading batting average, 15 homers, 13 doubles, 59 RBIs, and SEC leading on-base percentage.

🇺🇸 Paul Skenes. The ace earned 2023 National Player of the Year and SEC Pitcher of the Year. His 167 strikeouts lead the nation.

🇺🇸 Tommy White. The Tank is a sophomore who made big noise this season. He’s third in the nation and first in the SEC with 91 RBIs. Tommy Tanks leads the team with 20 home runs and 22 doubles.

🔼  You’re So Golden. For the second year in-a-row, Ciara Briggs won the Rawlings Gold Glove Award presented by the NFCA. She had a perfect fielding percentage with 83 putouts and 4 assists in center field. She also went back-to-back seasons without committing a single error. She was great at the plate as well with a .347 batting average, 68 hits, and a team leading 46 runs scored. Ciara is the only Gold Glove winner from the SEC this season.

Do you know the only other LSU softball player to receive a Gold Glove Award?
