Bayou Brew 6/9: Super Central

Today, we're preparing for Super Regionals.

Good morning. We have a busy weekend ahead, so kick it off with something exciting! Check out Hailey Van Lith’s highlights from the FIBA 3×3 World Cup!

What all are we mixing into today's Brew?

⚾️ Super central
🎽 Moving on
🐯 And much, much more!

The Bigger Picture. A group of LSU football players traveled abroad to Dakar, Senegal for a study abroad opportunity. The guys got to see a different culture and help the community in Western Africa. Check out everything they did over on LSU Gold.

🔼 Super Central. Baseball is back in “The Box” for the last time this season! The Tigers will face the Kentucky Wildcats tomorrow in the Super Regional at 2:00pm. The series is best two out of three, so there will be a game on Sunday and an if necessary game on Monday. Tickets go on sale this morning at 9:00am at www.LSUtix.net.

Earlier in the season, the Tigers took a series from Kentucky, going 2 for 3 that weekend. The Wildcats dropped one game to Indiana in their regional at home, but handled the other three with ease.

🔼 Survive And Advance. Michaela Rose, Alia Armstrong, Shani’a Bellamy, and the 4×100 squad all advanced to tomorrow’s finals after a full night of events. Alia ran the fastest time of the semis in the 100m hurdles. Michaela was the fastest qualifier in NCAA history and broke the record for the third time in Mike A. Myers Stadium this season.

🔼 Remember The Name. The WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx will be retiring LSU’s very own Sylvia Fowles’ No. 34 jersey on Sunday. Sylvia was the 2017 WNBA MVVP and four-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. She led the Lynx to two WNBA titles and was named Finals MVP both times. At LSU, she was the 2008 SEC Player of the Year and made two Final Four appearances.

🔼  Dynamic Duo. The duo of Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews is like no other. The two were named 2 of 3 finalists for the Golden Spikes Award and 2 of 5 finalists for the 2023 Dick Howser Trophy. Crews has the 2nd best on-base percentage in the nation with a .573 and the 3rd best batting average with a .432. He’s 2nd in the nation in runs scored as well with 87. Skenes leads the nation in strikeouts (179), strikeouts per nine innings (16.22), and WHIP (0.79). He’s so far advanced, he has 41 more strikeouts than the pitcher with the second-most.

Bayou Traditions raises funds to provide Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) opportunities to LSU student-athletes—making NIL deals more accessible and sustainable and allowing student-athletes to gain finance and business experience without compromising their focus on studies and sports.

NIL is a competitive space and now influences where an athlete attends college. We need the Tiger community to join us and keep LSU at the forefront of NIL!

Honoring The GOAT’s. Two LSU women’s basketball players have had their jersey numbers retired, one being Sylvia Fowles.

Do you know who the other player is?
