Bayou Brew 4/7: This Is Louisiana
Today, we're filling you in on everything going on in the LSU world this weekend.
Good morning. Coach Mulkey's state pride will put you in all the feels this morning, this is us! Speaking of Louisiana pride, Mulkey & Co. just landed a commitment from the No. 1 player in Louisiana for the second year in a row.
What's steeping in today's Brew?
βΎοΈ Baseball looks to bounce back
π₯ Softball seeking a series win
π― And much, much more!
The Climb. Prepare for the NCAA Gymnastics Championships with The Climb. All episodes are currently free to watch on LSU Gold. This docu-series goes inside LSU gymnastics throughout the entire season. You can find Central Region Gymnast of the Year Haleigh Bryant's story here. The semifinals begin Thursday, April 13th, so catch up now!
πΌ Baseball Seeking A Bounce Back. LSU baseball had a rough night last night when they fell to No. 6 South Carolina by a score of 13-5, and boy it was a long one. After about an hour long lightning delay, the Tigers found themselves down 3-1. After striking out eight batters in 3 innings, Paul Skenes couldn't return to the mound after the delay. Jordan Thompson and Cade Beloso both put the team on their backs when they hit a 2-run bomb each in the 7th and 8th innings after being down 9-1. The Tigers couldn't complete the comeback as South Carolina's pitching just got better.
The series continues today in double header fashion with game one starting at 11:00am CT and game two about an hour after game one. Both games can be streamed on SEC Network.
πΌ Rally Through The Weekend. LSU softball will be looking to rally to get the series win after dropping Game 1 by a score of 8-6 to Missouri. The Tigers started off hot after going up 5-1 in the fourth inning. SEC Player of the Week, Danieca Coffey, went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Sydney Berzon started the game off in the circle and racked up six strikeouts before being relieved by Ali Kilponen. Things went south when Missouri scored 7 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The series continues tomorrow at 6:00pm.
πΌ Beachin'. The fifth ranked Sandy Tigs (18-8) head to the Unconquered Invitational at Florida State for weekend matchups against No. 7 Loyola Marymount, No. 3 Florida State, No. 15 Florida Atlantic, and Southern Miss. The Tigers have faced almost all of these teams already this season, going 3-2 against them. LSU is 0-2 against FSU this year, losing 2-3 in both matches. It's hard to beat a good team three times, so LSU has a good shot here. The Tigers are 2-0 against Southern Miss and 1-0 against LMU. Florida Atlantic is the only team playing this weekend that LSU has not yet seen. The action begins this morning at 10:00am CT.
πΌ Set The Pace. LSU outdoor track and field gets to stay home this weekend when they host the Lloyd Wills Invitational on Saturday. The men's team is currently ranked No. 5 and the women are ranked No. 6.
LSU is home to the No. 1 100m hurdle trio in the country. Alia Armstrong, Shani'a Bellamy, and Leah Phillips are the only trio in the country averaging sub-13 times at 12.86s. Thelma Davies is one of just two women ranked top-10 in the nation for three different running events.
Need a schedule of track and field events tomorrow? We got you right here.
Playing In The Sand. LSU beach volleyball has been pretty solid since Coach Russell Brock took charge, making the NCAA Tournament a few times.
Do you know just how many times the Sandy Tigs have made the NCAA Tournament?
