Bayou Brew 7/25: Three For All

Today, one Tiger is representing the USA this week and others are winning top awards.

Good morning. We’re going to have a home run kind of Tuesday, so let’s kick things off with Jared Jones in the Cape Cod League’s Home Run Derby! He raked five homers with two of them being over 420 feet.

What else is in today's Brew?

🏀 HVL in red, white, & blue
🥈 Silver for one former Tiger
🐯 And much, much more!

Tigers Win. Back in March, Olympic Gold Medalist Maggie MacNeil stopped by the studio to talk Olympics, her decision to come to Baton Rouge, and much more. She is one of the most decorated athletes to step foot in the Hey Fightin’ Podcast studio, holding two World Records and a 2020 Tokyo Olympic Gold Medal. When you scroll down, you’ll see why we’re highlighting Maggie today.

🔼 Three For All. LSU continues to put on the red, white, & blue as Hailey Van Lith competes in the 3×3 U23 Nation’s League for Team USA this week. In June, she won gold at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup. HVL will suit up against Canada and Chile today and you can stream the games on www.youtube.com/fiba3×3.

🔼 Tiger Takeover. The Tigers completely took over the 2023 LSWA individual honors for the All-Louisiana Track and Field Team, taking nine of the ten awards:

Track Athlete of the Year: Godson Oghenebrume & Michaela Rose

Field Athlete of the Year: Tzuriel Pedigo & Morgan Smalls

Freshman of the Year: Matthew Sophia & Brianna Lyston

Newcomer of the Year: Brandon Hicklin & Shani’a Bellamy

Head Coach of the Year: Dennis Shaver

🔼 Shining Silver. Former LSU swimmer Maggie MacNeil took home a silver medal for Canada at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships. She had an epic turn around after sitting in fifth at the 50m mark to jump all the way to second-place in the 100m butterfly final. She holds four LSU records after just one season as a Tiger and earned the Commissioner’s Trophy at the SEC meet.

There are 40 days until LSU’s football season.
