Bayou Brew 4/12: Tigers topple Tulane

Today, we're highlighting all the fun that last night had to offer, including 19 hits in NOLA.

Good morning. Today, we’re sending congratulations to LSU beach volleyball’s Ellie Shank for receiving the Athletes for Hope Player of the Year award!

What's steeping in today's Brew?

⚾️ Tigers topple Tulane
⛳️ Men’s golf comeback
🐯 And much, much more!

Play By Play. Tune in to this week’s episode of Play by Play where we’re joined by Director of LSU Football Recruiting, JR Belton. The Tigers signed one of the nation’s top recruiting classes for 2023, and Louisiana’s very own JR Belton had a large part in that.

🔼 Tigers Topple Tulane. LSU baseball traveled down the road to New Orleans to record 19 hits in last night’s 11-5 win over Tulane. Brayden Jobert and Tommy White brought in three runs each in the big win. Jobert hit his fifth homer of the year along with a run-scoring single. Jordan Thompson joined in on the fun when he hit a solo home run in the ninth, making that his third homer in the last three games. Pitcher Bryce Collins was awarded the win after allowing no hits and two strikeouts.

Baseball will be back in “The Box” on Thursday night for a three-game series with Kentucky.

🔼 Battled The Best. LSU softball lost to Oklahoma, 3-0, which has to be impressive considering the Sooners have outscored opponents 319-33 this season. Tiger fans showed out and recorded the fourth largest crowd at Tiger Park with 3,073 fans in attendance. The champs continue to show up and Flaujae Johnson threw out the first pitch!

LSU’s pitching staff did a great job of containing the Sooners. Sydney Berzon started in the circle and threw 1.2 innings, recording one strikeout and allowing three runs. Raelin Chaffin, Emilee Casanova, and Alea Johnson all came in to relieve the circle and allowed no hits and no runs. Danieca Coffey continued her hot streak, leading the team with two hits and a walk. Ali Newland got the other hit for the Tigers, but they could not capitalize.

The Tigers will head to Auburn for a three game series beginning on Friday.

🔼 Taking Home Third. LSU men’s golf had a Phil Mickelson type comeback in the Aggie Invitational on Tuesday to bring home third place, after posting the lowest round of the day. The Tigers finished the final round 12-under and finished 4-under the entire tournament. Luke Haskew and Drew Doyle had seven birdies each yesterday and Luke tied for second overall after shooting 6-under. The Tigers will head to the SEC Championship in one week in St. Simon Island, Georgia.

🔼 Teeing Off For A Championship. The third ranked women’s golf team is seeking another SEC Championship after bringing home the hardware in 2022. The Tigers have four wins in the 2022-2023 season, with two coming in the fall and two in the spring. The SEC Championship in Birmingham begins today through Saturday if necessary. With eight SEC teams sitting in the top-25, the field is set up to provide great competition.

Bayou Traditions raises funds to provide Name, Image & Likeness (NIL) opportunities to LSU student-athletes—making NIL deals more accessible and sustainable and allowing student-athletes to gain finance and business experience without compromising their focus on studies and sports.

NIL is a competitive space and now influences where an athlete attends college. We need the Tiger community to join us and keep LSU at the forefront of NIL!

Tee time. Women’s golf is set to have a promising year at the SEC Championship again.
