Bayou Brew 10/18: We're No. 1

Today, a Tiger trio leads the nation, outstanding offensive line, and the No. 1 team in the country.

Good morning. October is Hispanic Heritage Month and our student-athletes told us their favorite things about their heritage.

What did we pour into today's Brew?

🏈 Let’s lead the nation
🏀 We’re No. 1
🐯 And much, much more!

The Path. LSU Football comes back to Tiger Stadium for Saturday Night in Death Valley after two weeks on the road. Leading one of the nation's top offenses is Louisiana native Malik Nabers, whose route-running and playmaking make him the Tigers' top target in the passing game.

Film Room. LSU Football Head Coach Brian Kelly is back with Gordy Rush in the Film Room to break down some of the most elite plays on both sides of the ball in the Tigers' 48-18 victory over the Auburn Tigers.

🔼 Tiger Trio. Three Tigers lead the nation in statistics, starting with Jayden Daniels. He leads the way in total offense, averaging 401.3 yards per game. He leads the conference and sits No. 2 in the nation in passing touchdowns and touchdowns responsible for. Malik Nabers leads the country in receiving yards with 860. Brian Thomas Jr. is tied for the lead in touchdown receptions. The two receivers rank as the top SEC receiving duo.

🔼 Outlandish. LSU center Charles Turner III was named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week for his performance against Auburn. The LSU offensive line helped the Tigers to 563 total yards. This puts Turner on the Outland Trophy watchlist going forward.

Additionally, the LSU offensive line was named a midseason honor roll member for the Joe Moore Award, going to the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit in college football. The squad ranks fifth nationally and first in the SEC in yards before contact rushing. The Tigers won the Joe Moore Award in 2019.

🔼 Hometown Throwdown. The men’s golf team got their second win of the fall season at the Everett Buick GMC Classic, shooting 22-under! Connor Gaunt got to put on a show near his hometown in central Arkansas, he finished tied for third-place with teammate Jay Mendell.

🔼 Hailey Van Swish. LSU women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith was named to the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award Preseason Watchlist by the Basketball Hall of Fame. This recognizes her as one of the top-20 shooting guards in the nation. ESPN ranked HVL as the top player in this year’s transfer portal.

🔼  Starting Strong. The women’s basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the Preseason AP Poll for the first time ever! With the returners from last season, the top rated recruiting class, and the top two players out of the transfer portal — LSU is the team on top. The SEC also named the Tigers as the preseason No. 1 and Angel Reese as Player of the Year. She’s also a preseason All-SEC First Team member beside Flau’Jae Johnson and Hailey Van Lith. Aneesah Morrow was named All-SEC Second Team. The Tigers will be on the court soon, hosting an exhibition game against East Texas Baptist next Thursday, October 26.
